The four elements of the universe; Earth, Wind, Fire and Water, balance the laws of nature. They are vital for life to exist. The fifth element, rarely spoken of, is Ether (Space). This is the container where the elements originate from.
According to Ayurvedic traditions, these five elements are alsorepresented in our body, and each element is responsible for different structures and functions:
Earth - represents rocks and stability. In humans, it forms all solid structures, i.e. the bones and tissues, flesh and skin, and hair.
Water - represents fluidity and adaptability. In humans, it forms all bodily fluids.
Fire - represents life and energy. In humans, it drives our needs for hunger, thirst and sleep.
Wind - represents and is responsible for movement and expansion. In humans, breathe.
Ether (Space) - is omnipresent. In humans, it is deeply connected to our inner wisdom, intuition, and fears.
You see? We ourselves, are elements. In a time where the world is struggling more than ever, this painting serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of these united elements working in unison, and humanity’s role in ensuring they aren’t thrown off balance.
If the Earth doesn’t survive, neither do we. It’s that simple. It’s time we all did our bit to unite and treat the world how we choose to treat ourselves, with kindness, so it, and humanity, continue to live on and thrive in the best way possible.
